최근 기업의 사회적 책임에 대한 관심이 점차적으로 높아지고 그 중요성이 지속적으로 증대됨에 따라 그동안 다양한 산업을 대상으로 기업의 사회적 책임에 대한 연구가 활발하게 진행되었다. 그러나 지금까지도 반도체기업들을 대상으로 연구하였던 논문은 많이 부족하였으며 특히, 반도체 기업을 대상으로 사례연구를 진행하였던 논문은 더욱 부족하였다. 아울러 글로벌 반도체기업의 사회적 책임에 대한 사례연구는 그 의미가 매우 크다. 왜냐하면 최근 반도체가 다양한 산업에 적용이 확대됨에 따라 글로벌 반도체기업의 전 세계적 영향력이 커지고 있어서 글로벌 반도체기업들의 사회적 책임에 대한 역할도 더욱 중요해지고 있기 때문이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 대만과 미국을 대표할 수 있는 주요 반도체기업들의 사회적 책임에 대한 실제 사례연구를 진행하였다. 아울러 기업의 사회적 책임에 대한 개념과 요소는 국가, 시대와 학자에 따라 매우 다양하다. 그러나 본 연구에서는 Carroll(1991)과 홍순복 등(2012)이 이미 논문에서 제시하였던바와 같이 기업의 사회적 책임에 대한 요소를 네 가지 범주인 경제적 책임, 법률적 책임, 윤리적 책임과 자선적 책임으로 보았다. 이에 따라 글로벌 반도체기업들의 사회적 책임에 대한 활동을 경제적 책임, 법률적 책임, 윤리적 책임과 자선적 책임의 네 가지 관점으로 분류하여 구체적으로 분석하였다. 본 논문에 대해 분석한 결과 TSMC와 Intel 양사 모두 사회적 책임에 대한 활동을 성실하게 수행하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 다른 반도체기업들에 대한 전략적 시사점으로 기업의 사회적 책임에 대한 활동은 기업의 수익성과 성장성 그리고 리스크 관리의 측면에서도 많은 도움이 될 수 있다는 점들을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study is to verify the Corporate Social responsibility activities of global semiconductor companies in Taiwan and America named TSMC and Intel. As those two companies are global semiconductor companies worldwide, so they can be the model of CSR activities in semiconductor industry. Recently, There are increasing demands regarding CSR activities of company due to social atmosphere and perception change of various stakeholder. And CSR activities are considered to be a necessary activity for company``s growth as many consumers prefer the company which executes CSR activity. Therefore, this study focused on four aspects of CSR activities which are Economic responsibility, Legal responsibility, Ethical responsibility and Philanthropic responsibility according to the study of Carroll(1991) and Hong Soonbok et al.(2012). As a result, this study showed that those two case study companies are doing a great job in CSR activity. Lastly, there are some implications about CSR activity for other semiconductor companies which are very helpful for their CSR activity.
