본 논문은 신문 및 잡지 기사, 국가기록원 기록물 등을 바탕으로 1976년에 개최된 제22회 아시아 영화제가 가지는 의미구성 방식, 중심이 되는 기제, 내포하는 바가 무엇인지를 살펴보고자 한다. 아시아 영화제에 관한 기사들은 근대적인 것과 전근대적인 것이라는 프레임을 통해서 당시 영화제를 바라보고 있었다. 그리고 아시아 영화제가 국내 영화산업의 침체성을 타개할 도약의 기회이자 우리 영화를 인정받을 수 있는 무대로 파악하고 있었음을 발견할 수 있었다. 즉 영화제를 통해서 한국 사회의 발전과 근대성을 인정받고자 하는 욕망이 투영된다. 또한 아시아 영화제는 타자의 응시를 겨냥한 스펙터클로서 전근대성을 극복한 근대라는 물신적 환상이라는 함의를 담고 있다. 제22회 아시아 영화제는 영화제 개최를 통해서 국가의 발전을 외부에 전시하고, 영화제 시상을 통해서 한국영화의 발전을 보여주는 한편, 70년대 영화시장 침체를 탈피하고자 하는 복합적인 목적을 가진다. 이 행사가 개최된 부산은 국가의 근대성 전시를 위한 하나의 모델로 활용되었다. 결론적으로 제22회 아시아 영화제는 타자의 응시를 겨냥하여 전근대적인 한국 사회 내부는 비가시화하고, 근대적인 모습을 외부로 전시하고자 하였다.
Based on news and magazine articles, National Archives Records, etc, this study focuses on finding out a way of construction of meaning, the center of mechanism and what it involves through the 22th Asian Film Festival which was held in 1976. It can be found out that articles on the Asian Film Festival view it through two frames; modern one and pre-modern one. Also, the Asian Film Festival can be regarded as a chance to way out the doldrums of domestic movie industies and as a springboard of domestic movies to be recognized. In other words, through the Asian Film Festival, there were desires for to be acknowledged modernity and developments of Korean society. In addition, the Asia Film Festival can be considered as a spectacle aimed at a gaze of Other, and contains the implication of a fetish fantasy which means modernity overcomes pre-modernity. As a result, the 22th Asian Film Festival revealed the growth of nation on the outside. Also, through awarding, it showed developments of Korean movies. Besides, a purpose to break from the doldrums of Korean movie industries in 1970's had exposed through this Asian Film Festival. It can be recognized that locality of Busan has been applied as a model for a purpose of putting its modernity on display. In conclusion, the outside can be considered as a modern Film Festival which exhibited modernity, although the inside of Korean society aimed a gaze of Other can be seemed pre-modern.
