최근 한국에서는 어렵게 입학한 대학교를 중도 탈락하고, 대학입학시험을 거쳐 대학을 바꾸고 전공을 다시 찾는 이들이 많다. 이는 어느새 학력사회인 한국에서 대학생들이 고유한 꿈에 닿는 방법이 되었다. 본 연구의 목적은 입시반복 후 새로운 대학교에 진학하여 전공을 바꾼 대학생들의 경험을 질적 사례연구를 통해 탐구하는 것이다. 자료수집을 위해 자발적으로 연구 참여 의사를 밝힌 대학생 5명과 개별 심층면담을 수행하였다. 연구에서는 먼저 사례 내 분석을 실시하였고, 그 다음으로 각 사례에서의 이슈들을 비교하면서 사례 간 분석을 하여 21개의 하위범주 및 5개의 상위범주를 도출하였다. 사례 간 분석 결과에 따르면 본 연구참여자들은 ‘마음껏 꿈꾸지 못했던 어린 날’, ‘방향이 어긋난 채 잠시 머무른 자리’, ‘탈 많은 선택을 격려해준 사람들’, ‘잠시 키를 낮추며 기다리는 미래’, ‘지나온 날보다 분주해진 마음’과 같은 경험을 하는 것으로 드러났다. 또한 연구참여자들의 경험을 모두 관통하면서 ‘나이테에 겹겹이 더하는 꿈’이라는 중심주제가 드러남을 발견하였다. 끝으로, 연구결과를 토대로 한국의 학력·학벌주의에 대한 성찰을 비롯하여 대학생들이 고유한 꿈과 다양한 선택으로 건강한 발달을 이어갈 수 있도록 제언하였다.
Recently, in Korea, a lot of students dropped out of the college and they managed to look for a new major with a change of college, taking the college entrance examination again. This has already become a way for Korean college students to reach their own dreams in credential society. The purpose of this study is to investigate the experience of college students who re-entered a new college and changed their majors after repeated examinations, through a qualitative case study. Five college students voluntarily participated in the research, and in-depth interviews were conducted. This study conducted a cross-case analysis, then comparing the issues of each case revealed in the within-case analysis, and found 21 subcategories and 5 categories. The cross-case analysis found out that what the participants experienced were ‘young days when I could not dream enough’, ‘the place I stayed in the wrong direction for a moment’, ‘people who always supported my wrong choices’, ‘awaiting the future with lowering my expectations for a while’ and ‘busier mind than the past days’. Furthermore, the experience across all participants was revealed as the main topic of ‘dreams added in layers on the growth ring’. Finally, based on the results of the study, suggestions were made for that college students could continue the healthy development with unique dreams and various choices, including a reflection on Korea's credentialism and elite university favoritism.
