하이데거의 인간 이해는 여러 작품들에서 각기 다른 용어들로 표현되지만, 기본적으로 서양의 전통적인 존재 및 인간 이해와 구별되는 특징이 있다. 특별히 「휴머니즘 서간」에서의 하이데거의 인간 이해는 오늘날 인공 지능 시대에 앞으로의 인간의 모습과 연관하여 진지하게 고찰해 보아야 할 성찰들을 담고 있다. 그의 인간 이해의 특징 가운데 세 가지 측면, 즉 세계-내-존재로서 존재를 사유하는 인간, 자신을 초월하며 실존하는 인간, 자신이 있어야할 근원적인 장소에 대해서 실천적으로 사유하는 인간의 특징은 교양교육이 염두에 두어야 할 인간다움의 가치들이라 할 수 있다. 이러한 인간이해를 바탕으로 교양 교육이 실시된다면, 자신의 주변 세계와 존재를 비판적 안목으로 성찰하며 자신과 세계를 해체적으로 사유하는 인간 형성이 가능할 것이다. 하이데거가 말하는 이러한 인간다움(humanitas)의 회복은 지금의 고도의 정보 처리 과정으로서 인간을 이해하는 뇌 중심주의적 인간 이해 및 이에 기초하여 인공지능을 만들어 살아가고자 하는 시대에 새로운 이정표가 될 것이다.

Although it is expressed with different terms in different works, Heidegger’s understanding of human being has its own unique feature, which differs from the Western traditional understanding of Being and human beings. His understanding of human being, especially in his Letter to Humanism, contains some deep reflection today to be seriously considered for the futuristic feature of human being in the so-called coming AI age. It has three characteristics: human being who thinks of being as being-in-the-world(Mitdasein), existential human being who ex-sist itself, and human being who practically thinks of the fundamental locus where s/he should be. These are the values of being-human that our humanistic education today has to consider seriously. When our humanistic education is fulfilled upon these kinds of understanding of being-human, it can nourish and build up human subjective agency who can critically reflect upon the surrounding world and being and de/constructively think of self and world. The recovery of such a being-human, that is, Humanitas, of which Heidegger talks, can be an alternative signpost for the coming age, in which the brain-centered understanding of human being prevails so that human being will be considered just as a sophisticated information process and imagined that it can be replaced with artifical intelligence devices and networks.
