관광산업은 체험 판매를 본질로 하고 있으며, 최근 노인관광시장의 비중이 커지고 있음에도 불구하고 지금까지 노인관광객들의 경험을 체계적으로 분석·이해하고자 한 연구는 미미한 실정이다. 본 연구는 노인관광객들의 기억에 남는 관광경험(MTE)을 도출하고 그 결과에 따른 이론적·실무적 시사점을 제시하기 위하여 실행되었다. 연구목적의 달성을 위해 2018.4.23.~5.16. 사이에 65세 이상 노인 29명을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 실행하였다. 응답자들로부터 총 365건의 MTE를 도출한 다음 반복 또는 유사하게 제시된 것들은 하나로 묶고 차별화하는 과정을 거친 결과 315건의 MTE를 분석 단위로 활용하였다. 도출된 315건의 MTE는 30개의 범주로 분류되었으며, 이는 다시 최종적으로 12개의 차원(가족과의 관계, 타인과의 관계, 자연경관의 다양한 모습, 색다른 음식, 상이한 사회문화상, 걸출한 문화유산, 여행 중 고생/곤경, 사람들의 다양한 모습, 지식습득, 다양한 감정유발 사건, 관광지의 다양한 모습, 삶의 의미에 대한 사색)으로 유형화 되었다. 이를 바탕으로 본 연구 결과가 가지는 이론적·실무적 시사점, 연구의 한계, 향후 연구 방향 등에 대해 논의하였다.

Experiential economy might best go well with tourism industry. The senior market makes up a very large portion of tourism industry. However, little research has systematically investigated experiential nature of senior market. This study was aimed to investigate senior tourists’ memorable experiences(MTE), and thereby to suggest theoretical and practical implications of the result. To accomplish the aim, in-depth interviews were carried out with 29 senior tourists(above 65 years old) from Apr. 23, 2018 to May 16, 2018. From 365 MTEs drawn, a total of 315 MTEs were utilized for analysis after regarding repetitive or similar MTEs as the same MTE. Finally 315 MTEs were groups into 30 categories and 12 dimensions. Each dimension was named as relationships with family, relationships with other people, varieties of natural scenery, delicious and unconventional food, different sociocultural features, outstanding cultural heritages, hardships/troubles during the travel, various features of people, knowledge acquisition, events leading to positive/negative emotion, various features of tourism destination, and meditating meaning of life). Both theoretical and practical implications, research limitation, and future research suggestion were discussed.
