Establishment and Allocation of Reliability Goal for the Rolling Stock System

This paper is concerned with the problem of establishing the reliability goal for the development of high-speed rolling stock system and allocating it to the subsystems and assemblies. The failures of the rolling stock are classified into catastrophic, critical, marginal and negligible ones according to the effect and severity. Considering the operating and maintenance plan, the reliability goal for each category is determined to assure the specified probability of failures. For each failure category, the system reliability requirements are allocated the subsystems by evaluating potential failure modes and effects of the assemblies and by applying ARINC apportionment method. The allocated reliabilities of the subsystems are reallocated to the assemblies. The reliability for each subsystem is predicted based on the reliability block diagrams. Then, the predicted subsystem reliability is represented as a function of the failure rates of the assemblies, and the reliability goal for each assembly is determined by the feasibility-of-objective technique. The reliability for the parts will be allocated from the reliability of assembly. The suggested reliability will be used for the evaluation of design feasibility, and re-allocated if necessary.
