수도권 통근권역의 공간적 범위는 1995년의 경우 통근율을 기초로 보면 서울로부터 45∼50km 범위까지 확장되어 있다. 통근율과 역통근율을 합친 공간적 범위는 기존의 간선도로를 따라 포천방향으로 55km까지 확장되어 있음이 확인된다. 1997년의 경우 1995년과 대동소이하다. 그러나 양평지역 방향으로 보다 넓게 확장되어 있으며 포천지역은 경기도 군부지역 평균치 이하의 통근율을 보인다. 대체로 양 연도에서의 통근권역은 서울로부터의 간선도로 방향을 따라 星型을 이루면서 전개되어 있다.
