도로나 건물의 위치와 관계없이 지번에 기초하여 부여되고 있는 현 주소체계에 대한 대안으로 도로방 식에 의해 도로명과 건물번호를 사용하는 새 주소부여제도가 7000년 초까지 전국적으로 확대 실시될 예정이다. 서울시의 경우 강남구 시범사업 완료 이후, 새 주소사업이 서울시 전역으로 확대됨에 따라 서울시 전역에 대한 도로 망체계 구성 및 도로 기 ·종점 설정원칙을 정함으로서 새주소 부여의 기본틀을 정하고. 각 구마다 추진중인 새주소 부여사업의 효율성을 기하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 주소부여와 관련된 외국의 도로체계 구성을 살펴보고, 서울시 간선도로의 도로체계 구성안을 제시하였으며, 향후 새주소 사업의 확대와 관련된 과제를 제시하였다.

The New Address System, which is based on street name and building number along the street, is developed to complement the current address system which is based on cadastral system. The New Address System is going to be implemented in every local government by the early 21st century. In case of Seoul, the New address system has been introduced in Kangnam-Gu distrct in 1998 as a model. Seoul Metropolitan govenvnent decided to implement the New address system to the other districts by the year 2001. The study on the road network is needed for the efficient implementation of the new address system in Seoul. In this study, road network system of foreign countries has been investigated, road network for the new address system has been suggested, and several research/policy proposals are proposed for the development of the new address system in Korea.
