본고는 森川 洋 선생이 중심지연구에 관심을 갖게된 학생시절부터 廣島大學에서 정년퇴임할 때까지 그가 중심지연구를 체계적으로 정리하고 연구해, 일본에서 독보적인 중심지연구자가 된 배경을 시기별로 나누어 고찰한 것이다.

This paper reviews the central place studies in Japan by focusing on Professor Hiroshi Morikawa. He has consolidated and researched central place studies systematically distinguishable in his studies as a graduate student, assistant at Oita University, professor at Hiroshima University.
