This study deals with the problem of reliability assessment for embedded systems in electronic appliances. An embedded system consists of hardwares and softwares that interact each other and hence the faults or failures that may occur in the interface should be considered in reliability assessment. This paper identifies potential failure modes of interfaces between hardware and software, and proposes guidelines that can be used in designing reliability test for embedded softwares. A procedure for reliability assessment for embedded softwares is also discussed.
