One of the most challenging problems in the logistics industry is to reduce operational costs in warehouse or distribution center. An order picking, which is the assembly of customer`s order from items in storage, plays the most important role In the operation of warehouse or distribute center but is the most laborious and time consuming works, which implies that we must increase the productivity of order picking to reduce operational costs. To help reducing efforts required for order picking, we developed an order picking supporting software, which displays and prints out optimal route for each order in a manual warehouse and provides information about pickier`s utilization, picking time per order, total order processing time, location and inventory amount of each item, and order frequencies. Using the developed order picking supporting system, we compared the performance of three picking policies-single picking, zone picking with sorting process and zone picking without resorting process under various order arrival rate.
