본 논문은 미국 노스캐롤라이나, 리서치 트라이앵글사업을 중심으로 첨단산업과 지역성장 사이의 관계를 고찰하였다. 첨단기술은 성장단계에 따라 상이한 산업과 입지행태를 보이며, 리서치 트라이앵글은 전형적인 선진생산활동의 산업적 특성을 갖는다. 이러한 특성을 갖는 리서치트라이앵글의 개발배경, 사업방식, 사업효과와 문제점에 대한 심층적 분석을 통하여 한국의 지역 첨단기술정책의 가능성에 대하여 탐색하였다.

This paper discussed the relationship between high-tech industry and regional development by analysing the Research Triangle Project in North Carolina, U. S. A.. Agglomeration of high-tech industries has a different industrial and locational pattern with traditional industries and the Research Triangle shows a typical industrial growth model as an advanced manufacturing area. Through an investigation of development history, policy process and evaluation of Research Triangle, this paper contributes to examine a possibility of local high-tech policy in Korea.
