This paper intoduced the present situation of the education of `Korean as a foreign language` in American university. Among many universities in America, I focused on the Korean language program in the department of East Asian Languages and Cultures in Indiana University. Many scholars from both within and outside of Korea have recently paid special attention to Korean as a foreign language with the intention to promote Korean as an international language in the age of globalization. In this regard, I believe that the discussion on Korean language education is most opportune. In this paper discussed the following items. First, it gave the background of korean language education including America`s policy on foreign languages, korea`s policy and interests on korean language education, and the `survival education` for korean-Americans in America. Secondly, it discussed the characteristics of Korean language education including the structure of the Korean departments, courses, and the quality of students. Thirdly, it discussed the curricula and pedagogical methodology including teaching objectives, course contents, and teaching methods. Fourthly, it discussed teaching resources including textbooks, supplementary materials and the use of website as teaching aid. Finally, it evaluated on the current situation and on future prospects.
