구성주의가 정보화 시대의 교육이론으로 주목받고 있다. 본 연구는 정보화 시대의 초등교사를 위한 구성주의 교수-학습 환경을 탐구하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 첫째, 구성주의의 기본 가정과 주요 교수-학습 원리를 고찰하였다. 구성주의는 개인의 인지작용과 사회적 상호작용을 통한 맥락에 적합한 지식 구성을 강조한다. 구성주의 학습자는 학습의 주인공으로서 자신의 학습에 책임을 지고 자기 주도적인 역할을 수행한다. 구성주의 교사는 학습을 보조하는 안내자, 조언자, 동료 학습자로서의 역할을 수행하게 된다. 둘째, 구성주의에 대한 초등교사들의 인식을 조사하였다. 설문 조사 결과, 구성주의 교육이 필요하다는 점에 대해 공감하고 있으며, 이에 따른 충분한 연수와 환경조성이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 구성주의 교수-학습 환경 설계 및 개발을 위한 주요 모형들을 탐구하였다. 구성주의 교수-학습 환경이 초등교육의 질적 수준 향상에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the constructivist teaching-learning environment for the elementary school teachers in the information era. To accomplish this purpose, first the basic assumptions and main teaching-learning principles were investigated. Constructivists emphasize the construction of knowledge appropriate to the context by the individuals` cognitive operation and social interaction. Constructivist learners are the owners of learning and have responsibility on their learning, and perform the role of self-directed learner. Constructivist teachers perform the role of guider, advisor, and co-learner assisting the students` learning. Second, the cognition of elementary school teachers on constructivism was surveyed. As results, it revealed that most elementary school teachers admit the necessity of constructivist education, but it is not well reflected in their educational practice. So, it is judged that the sufficient training and environmental support for constructivist education is needed. Third, the main models to design and development constructivist teaching-learning environment was investigated. They emphasize context-based design coping flexibly with the change of situation. It is expected that the constructivist teaching-learning environment will contribute to enhance the quality of elementary education.
