이전의 다국적 기업에 대한 연구가 전략-조직의 적합성과 기업의 성과 상이의 정의 연계에 대한 제한적인 지지를 보여준 점을 고려하여, 본 연구에서는 조직-전략의 적합성에 대한 이론적 모델을 개발하고 그 모델에 입각한 조직-전락의 적합성이 성과에 미치는 결과를 조사하였다. 본 논문에서 개발된 모델은 조직-전략의 적합성의 개념을 이전의 다국적 기업에 해한 연구에 논문들이 주로 이용한 이분법 척도라기 보다는 삼분법 척도에 의거하여 개발되었다. 엄격한 통계적 검증방법과 더불어 조직-전략의 적합성, 다국적 전략과 구조의 보다 조율된 개념화 및 변수 조작을 통하여, 53개의 대규모 미국 다국적 기업을 표본으로 분석한 결과 조직-전략의 적합성이 정의성과 양향을 미치는 데에 대하여 부분적인 지지를 받는 것으로 나타났다. 본 논문의 연구 결과에 대한 합의가 논의되었다.

Given that prior MNC research has provided the limited support to the positive linkage between strategy-structure fit and corporate performance this study developed a theoretical model of strategy-structure fit and examined the performance consequences of strategy-structure fit based on the developed model. The model was developed based on the trichotomous scale of strategy-structure fit rather than the simple dichotomous one previous MNC studies have employed. Using more find-tuned conceptualization and operationalization of strategy-structure fit, multinational strategy and structure along with the rigorous testing methods, analysis of data on a sample of 53 large U.S. multinational corporations indicated partial support to the positive performance effect of strategy-structure fit. Research implications for the results of this study were discussed.
