본고는 고대의 문헌에 사용된 ‘內’의 음가를 밝히고 이후의 음운사적 변화를 추적한 것이다. ‘內’의 음가는 吏讀, 口訣, @@札 등의 문장 표기에 앞서서 ≪三國史記≫ 및 ≪三國遺事≫에 기록된 고유 명사 표기의 異音 분석을 논의의 실증적 근거로 삼았다. ‘內’의 음운사적 변천은 ‘內’를 계승한 것으로 이해되는 차자 표기 ‘飛/??, @@/卜’와 향가에 나오는 ‘於內’의 표기를 통해서 그 발달 과정을 이해하고자 하였다. 이러한 음가 추정과 음운사적 변천의 이해는 중세 국어 음운 체계의 시각으로는 놓치기 쉬운 고대 국어 음운의 한 실상을 엿보게 할 뿐만 아니라, ‘內’의 조선 한자음 ‘??’의 성립에 대한 역사적 통찰을 얻을 수도 있는 것이다. 본고에서는 ‘內’의 고대 음가를 *nu로 재구하여 이해하면서, 이로부터 ‘飛/??, @@/卜’와 ‘어누~어??/어느’의 형태론적 관계를 설명하였고, ‘內’의 조선 한자음 ‘??’의 성립이 *nu의 내부 변화에 의한 것이 아니라 새로운 음가에 의한 교체로 파악하였다.

This paper is a historical phonemic analysis of the ‘內’ in the ancient literature. The ‘內’ which is a loan writing character is connected with ‘飛/??, @@/卜’. This connection will be appreciated by a historical view of Korean phonology. On the other hand the formative process of “??” which is the pronunciation of ‘內’ in Joseon dynasty is understanded by this study. According to this study the pronunciation of ‘內’ in ancient period is near [*nu], and [*nu] was replaced by Joseon pronunciation of “??(內)” which is formed in the late period of ancient Korean.
