A Feature Recognition and Localization Strategy for Sculptured Surfaces

This paper presents a feature recognition and localization strategy for the sculptured surface inspection process. The generated histogram curve from sculptured surfaces are used for feature recognition. B-spline interpolation method is applied to generate a surface from the measured points. The geometric properties are calculated to determine the best matching surface in the database. The location and orientation of the object are determined by analyzing the image data. The experimental results show the proposed method can be applied effectively for sculptured surface recognition and localization in the inspection processes.
