이 글은 아동문학가 이원수의 부왜작품을 발굴, 그 실체와 됨됨이를 학계에 처음으로 밝힌 것이다. 그는 이른바 `국민총력운동` 시기인 1940년부터 1945년 사이에 동시 두 편, 자유시 한 편, 수필 두 편, 모두 다섯 편의 부왜작품을 조선금융조합연합회 기관지 『半島の光』을 빌어 발표했다. 동시에서는 이른바 `聖戰`, 곧 태평양침략전쟁에 나가 싸울 `지원병`을 위하여 후방에서 `兵役奉公`을 다해야 함을 권고했다. 농민시 꼴을 지닌 자유시에서는 `農業報國`에 정성을 쏟음으로써 `총후봉공`의 완수를, 그리고 편지글 형식인 수필을 빌려서는 우리 아이들이 하루바삐 `內鮮一體`와 `皇國臣民`이 될 수 있도록 어른들이 노력해야 함을 신념어린 목소리로 말하고 있다. 많은 이들에게 전혀 뜻밖으로 여겨질 이원수의 부왜작품과 이 글로 말미암아, 그에 대한 연구뿐 아니라 우리 근대 아동문학의 부왜활동에 대한 관심이 드높아지기를 바란다.

Won-su Lee, a writer of children`s literature, has been known that he was not related to pro-Japanese matter. This writing, however, proved that Lee had published five pro-Japanese works through 1942 and 1943, which were two children`s verse, one poem and two essays. Lee beautified the Pacific War of Japanese imperialists and faithfully followed line with the logic for their ruling strategy in those works. That is, it was persuasion to encourage soldiers behind `Holy War` with Western imperialists including U.S.A. and to work hard for military supplies.! This writing proved Lee` s pro-Japanese works. Also, his children` s literature might need deeper studies on it. I hope, through the studies, that understanding and view of our society toward Korean modem literature would be forged harder.
