The purpose of this paper is to make clear the conception, classification and pragmatical functions of the exaggeration expression in Korean spoken language. For this, firstly the conception of the exaggeration expression is defined on the contrastiveness of false, euphemism and emphasis expression. It is exaggeration expression that is expressed by etension of big one or reduction of small one. On the other hand, falsehood is that expressed by violation of truth false value. Euphemism is expressed by reduction of small one or extension of big one. And emphasis expression is expressed by strengthening expressional form. And then, the type of exaggeration expression is classified according to the subject, aspect, and method of the exaggeration expression. The subjects of the exaggeration expression are the mental state, sense, figure of man and object, inner description, motion, and situation (event). The contents of exaggeration expression is the praise, thanks, blame, complaining, saying cynically, earnestness strong feelings (love, yeaming, surprise), etc. The aspects of exaggeration expression is the maximation, extension, reduction, excessive generalization and contrastiveness. For these, the vocabulary which has radical meaning (for example, death, insanity, faint, etc), the simile or metaphor expressions and the description of exaggerated result are used in the sentences. And the pragmatic function of emphasis expression is to raise the effect of sending information, concreteness, humor, departure and sensibility.
