This study was undertaken in order to examine the average score of performance in the health-promoting life style of college students and the relationship of optimism, health locus of control, self-esteem, and perceived health status of them, and to determine factors affecting health promoting lifestyle of college students. The subject were 139 students of one university in Kyungsan. Analysis of data was done by use of mean, percentage, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Stepwise multiple regression with SAS program. The result of this study are as follows : 1. The average score of performance in the health - promoting lifestyle was 156.3 and the average item score was 2.61. In the sub-categories, the highest degree of performance was harmonious relationship(3.12), and the lowest degree was professional health maintenance(1.52). 2. Optimism, internal locus of control, powerful others health locus of control, and self-esteem revealed significant correlations with total health promoting lifestyle. 3. Optimism was the highest factor predicting health promoting lifestyles of college student(22.4%). Optimism, powerful others health locus of control, internal locus of control, and self esteem accounted for 36.4% in the health promoting lifestyle of college students.
