Ego-states and Quality of Life among Persons with Mental Disorders

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate ego-states level and quality level of life among persons with mental disorders in community, grasp relationships between ego-states and quality of life, and provide the fundamental data to improve quality of life. Method: The subjects of study were the 106 persons with mental disorders who were registered in nine mental health center in Seoul and Kyong-gi province. The measurement tools for ego-state used in this study were the Ego-gram check list(50 items) and the life satisfaction scale(33 items). It was added general item 12 questions here and requested the clinical diagnosis and GAF(Global Assessment of Functioning) score to case management, and collected data did statistical analysis using the SPSS WIN 8.0 programs. Result: 1) CP ego-state`s score was the mean 23.48, NP ego-state`s was the mean 30.07, A ego-state`s was the mean 26.83, FC ego-state`s was the mean 26.44, AC ego-state`s was the mean 29.26 in 50 full marks. 2) Total mean score to quality of life was 2.62 in a possible range of 1 to 5. The highest mean score was a situation of a house(m=2.84) and the lowest mean score was an occupation and a daily schedule (m=2.32). 3) The relationship between AC ego-state(p=0.009), CP ego-state and quality of life was negative significant, and A ego-state(p=0.010), FC ego-state(p=0.046), NP ego-state and quality of life was positive significant. Conclusion: It is demanded various intervention ways in an occupation & a daily schedule and a relationship with friends & other persons to improve quality of life among persons with mental disorders. Also, I propose to try various programs that promote A ego-state and FC ego-state but reduce AC ego-state, and to measure the effect.
