본 연구의 목적은 유배우자 여성 노인의 성 갈등 주요 내용을 살피고, 성 갈등의 원인과 갈등의 결과에 대한 반응 및 성 갈등을 통해 나타나는 노인부부 간 관계 변화에 주목하여 여성노인의 성 갈등 유형을 탐색하는 것이다. 연구를 위해 질적 연구 방법론을 사용하였으며, 현재 성생활을 하고 있는 노인 부부 단독 거주 65세 이상 유배우자 여성노인 9명이 연구에 참여 했다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 여성 노인 9명을 대상으로 심층 면접을 실시하였으며, 이를 Strauss & Corbin이 제시한 패러다임 도형에 맞추어 일련의 순서에 따라 분석 배치하였다. 패러다임 모형은 인과적 조건, 중심 현상, 중재조건, 상호작용 전략, 상고작용 결과로 구성되며, 상위 범위 13개, 하위 범주 31개, 이에 대한 범주의 속성과 차원이 73개였다. 이에 따라 총 117개 개념회가 이루어졌다. 우선 인과적 조건의 주요범주에는 여성 노인의 `원만치 않은 성 생활`, `성 갈등 진입 과정`, `성 갈등 사건`이 개념화 되었다. 중심현상과 그 맥락에서는 `적대감 노출 시작`과 `적대감 노출 확장 과정`, `적대감 노출 종료`에 따라 성교 전, 성교 시, 성교 후에 따른 부부 관계상의 변화를 보였다. 중재 조건을 `관계적 조건`과 `개인적 조건`으로 나타났다. 관계적 조건으로는 `부부간 부정적 생활 감정`의 문제가, 개인적 조건으로는 `여성 노인 본인의 변인` 및 `남성 배우자 변인`이 중재 조건으로 작용하였다. 상호작용 전략으로는 `요청-수락에 대한 결과 기대감`을 거쳐, `요청-수락에 따른 암묵적 현상`, 그리고 `성교 후 관계 조정`이 발견되었다. 상호 작용 결과로는 `부부간 성생활을 통한 의사소통 형태`와 `부부 관계 역동`이 나타났으며, 최종적으로 노년기 여성노인 성 갈등 유형이 분석 결과로 나타났다. 둘째, 본 연구의 자료 분석 결과로 나타난 노년기 성 갈등 유형은 크게 `언쟁형`, `포기형`, `대립형`, `폭력형`으로 나타났다. 여성 노인은 성교에 이르기까지 손실을 줄이는 방향으로 교환을 형성하였다.

The purpose of this study is to explore the types of sexual conflicts among Korean elderly women. Based on the qualitative research method, in-depth interviews were conducted from the middle of May to early December, 2003. The participants of this study were 9 women over 65 years old and had been married over 25 years. For data analysis, the paradigm model which is proposed by Strauss & Corbin was used. The major findings of this study are as follows. As a result of data analysis, a total of 117 categories were conceptualized including 13 main categories, 31 sub-categories, and 73 characters and dimensions of categories. The paradigm model had 6 stages namely, `causal conditions`, `core phenomenon`, `context`, `intervening conditions`, `interaction`, and `consequences`. As a result, four types of sexual conflicts among Korean elderly people were found: The "Disputing type", The "Waiving Type", The "Quarrelling type" and The "Violent type" This study examined sexual conflicts among Korean elderly women as a process, rather than as a one time event. It found the various factors that affect the formation of sexual conflicts for Korean elderly women. The women tended to reduce the costs.
