이 논문에서 나는 가부장제 역사 아래서 축소되고 사라져버린 여성의 능동적, 주체적, 독립적 이미지를 중국 신화에 등장하는 여신들의 모습을 통해 밝혀보고자 하였다. 중국의 여신들은 우리의 상상력 안에서 다양한 여성의 이미지를 구현시킬 수 있다고 생각하기 때문이다. 그동안 어머니. 아내는 여성의 전형적인 모습으로 이해되어 왔으며, 그것은 여성능동성을 은폐시키는 작업과 연결되어 있다. 그래서 가부장제적 어머니, 아내의 역할에서 여성의 주체성이나 능동적인 면모를 발견하기란 쉽지 않다. 하지만 고대 인류의 사고 원형인 신화에 등장하는 어머니, 아내의 모습을 통해 이전의 것과는 다른 새로운 이미지를 창출해 볼 수 있다 그것은 억압에 순응하는 것이 아니라 오히려 그것에 적극적으로 저항하는 힘이 될 수 있다. 본 논문의 이 같은 문제 의식은 여성 주체에 대한 대안적 상징성들을 새롭게 해석해보고자 하나의 시도이며, 나아가 여성 주체성을 철학적으로 이론화하는 작업이다.

In this paper I have examined the images of women`s spontaneity and independence appearing in Chinese Mythology. I classified Goddess by three types according to the possession of identity. These are "the great mother" Goddess, "unmarried mother" Goddess and "bad wife" Goddess. In ancient times the women`s physiological cycle such as menstruation, pregnancy, birth was regarded as a natural cycle. And bringing, mothering was understood a meaning of positive work. And also there is no gender differentiation in ancient society. But it has been reduced and distorted in the patriarchal system. I`m trying to show that we can find women`s positive images in Chinese Mythology, because I think that Chinese goddess out put various women`s positive images in our imagination. This paper is a part of work which find the track of traces which has been erased and covered up women`s spontaneity and independence in Confucian patriarchal system.
