This paper have the purpose to take the current of receiving western ancient philosophy by the way of surveying and analyzing the study and translation about western ancient philosophy from Enlightenment to 1953. This current is formed largely in two branches. The one is studies by the reactionof earlier religious body and philosophical circles to foreign philosophical thoughts. The other is the study and translating for the enlightenment, that is in order to prepare for the basis for the understanding of western philosophy, religion and culture in ground. Tractatus of Greek ancient philosophy by Injae-Lee is of former stream. This current, however, remain at the surface study with the help of various elementary textbooks. On the contrary the stream of enlightenment is continued to translation. That is the translations of Plato`s some dialogues by Hyunggi-Ryu who is the first translation of western ancient philosophy in Korea. But these translations neither are nor complete neither translations nor translation by the original but retranslation from English edition. Now the translation from the original text was done by the generation who absorbed the western sciences Foundation of Gyungsung Empire University. Namchul-Shin is the representative of that generation. His `translation of Heraclitus fragments` is the result in which translator`s thought is realized. He thought that philosophers` thoughts must be understood from the readings of original texts. His translation equipped the basic form of academic translation. But insufficient mastering of Greek language and imperfect knowledge of ancient philosophy caused insufficient translation. In conclusion during the time from enlightenment to 1953, is not enough the result of study and translation about western ancient philosophy. It is because of urgent actual circumstance. That is Under the social circumstance of occupation by Japan Empire the classical study and translation requiring for long training may seeded too academic to the intellect. With this reality the Japanese translation and study easily available may decrease the necessity of classical study. At last, however, approaching to western ancient philosophy through Japanese language caused the discontinuation of academic language after the Independence from Japan Empire, and played the crucial roll of effecting the limping studying methods and limping custom of translating.
