A Study on the Semantic Characteristics of a Broadcasting Language

A broadcasting language refers to a language that is conveyed by broadcasting media. And it can be said to be a sort of speech communica -tion that is based on voice language. As one of the leading mass media in modern society, broadcasting is briefly characterized by popularity, quick report, part of everyday life and presence. In particular, it``s required to serve for the common good, since a language transmitted through broadcasting media exercises a greater influence than any other types of media. As a vehicle of mass communication, its function can be listed as below. The purpose of this study was to discuss the general characteristics of a broadcasting language and its semantic features, in light of semantics, which should be taken into account for smooth and desirable information transmission. In conjunction with semantic theories, there are several features in broadcasting language: expressive, signalling, descriptive and argument - ative functions. In conclusion, broadcasting language plays a crucial sociocultural role. To carry out its mission properly, it is generally requested to be the standard, spoken, easy-to-understand, and purified language. On the other hand, there is some possible technical disfunction in broadcasting. For instance, something wrong might happen in the course of being on the air, or it might not work as intended or produce undesirable results. Specifically, the use of incorrect broadcasting language is highly likely to have an injurious effect upon society and develop into grave social issues.
