이 글에서는 현대 한국 가족의 의사소통의 문제와 개선 방안에 대해서 살펴보았다. 20세기를 거쳐 오면서 한국 사회의 가족체계도 변하고, 가족 구성원들의 역할과 책임 구조도 많이 달라졌다. 21세기 고도산업화 사회, 정보화 사회, 세계화를 강조하는 사회에서 한국 가족이 겪는 의사소통의 문제를 짚어보고, 그 개선 방안을 이론적 차원에서 검토했다. 급변하는 한국사회에서 가족 체제의 결속성과 친밀도를 떨어뜨리는 요소들이 점점 더 많아지고 가족 구성원들의 갈등과 불행을 초래하는 일들이 자주 발생하게 된다. 가족 구성원 사이의 의사소통이 원만하지 않음으로서 가족 문제는 더욱 악화된다는 것을 인식하고, 소통 개선을 위한 개별 가족과 사회 전반적인 노력이 필요함을 강조하였다. 2장에서는 가족 구성원 사이의 의사소통의 중요성을 강조하고, 가족 의사소통의 특성과 유형을 분류 설명하였다. 3장에서는 현재 한국 가족들이 겪고 있는 의사소통의 문제점을 건전한 가족 의사소통의 조건에 비추어 분석하였다. 4장에서는 한국 가족의 의사소통의 문제를 해결하고 나아가서 가족 건전성을 강화하기 위해서는 개인적 차원의 노력과 함께 정부와 사회 차원의 지원이 체계적이고, 지속적으로 이루어져야 함을 강조했다. 이를 위해서는 가족 소통의 실태를 파악하기 위한 실태조사와 분석, 문제 점검과 해결을 위한 다양한 프로그램의 개발, 각 개선책의 효과적 실시를 위한 지원제도 정비 등이 논의되어야 함을 주장하였다. 인류 역사가 시작된 이래 가족은 사회의 가장 중요하고도 기본이 되는 체제이고, 가족 체제의 건전성과 기능성은 가족 구성원들이 서로를 이해하고 위해주는 소통이 원활해져야만 가능해지는 것이기 때문이다.

In this paper, it is argued that a lot of Korean families have been confronted with communication problems due to rapidly changing society, systematic approach to the family communication problems and making supporting programme to resolve the problems is a pressing need of the hour. In the industrialized, information-oriented and internationalized society, the family unity and solidarity have been gradually weakened, troubles and conflicts among family members are rapidly increased after 20th century. To make the matters worse, lack of family communication makes the troubles and conflicts bigger and harder. In chapter 2, it is focused on the importance of daily communication between family members and classified the character and the patterns of family communications. In chapter 3, it is examined the problems of Korean family communication compared to the communication of a strong, healthy family. In chapter 4, it is argued that to improve the Korean family communication system better, not only the efforts of each family members are needed but systematic supporting programme should be provided. The laws and rules must be laid down to support that kinds of programmes. For the happiness of every families, vivacious communication among family members is essential. However, lively communication is not so easy but very hard to achieve only with the endless endeavor and concentrated efforts of every members of the family. The soundness and healthiness of a society is based on the strongness and integrity of families in the society. Finally it is strongly asserted that a survey and analysis on the reality of Korean family communication should be set to work, and laws and rules are to be laid to support family communication problems.
