본 논문은 여성 묘지명 서술 원리와 서술 양상에 대해 고찰하였다. 조선시대 여성 묘지명은 남성 문인들이 썼다. 남성 서술자들은 여성 생애를 재구성하고 서술하는 데에 남성 묘지명 쓸 때와는 다른 원리를 적용하였다. 그것은 不出-숨김, 드러내지 않기와 종인 원리, 의가 원리이다. 불출-숨김 원리는 여성에 관한 것들을 드러내어 서술하지 않거나 남성에 속하는 것으로 만들기, 뒤로 숨겨 서술하는 방식이다. 이에 남성 서술자들은 여성의 이름, 자호를 언급하지 않았다. 또한 자손을 서술하는 데에 있어서도 남성 묘지명에 있다고 하는 언급으로써 여성 묘지명에서는 자손을 기재하지 않았다. 남성 서술자들은 종인 원리에 의해 여성 행위를 능동적 형태로 표현하지 않는다. 여성을 둘러싸고 있는 남성 인물들의 행동, 상황에 따라 여성이 대응하는 방식으로 서술한다. 여성 행위에 앞서 반드시 남성 인물들(남성의 가족 범위에 속하는 인물들)을 먼저 거론한다. 특히 남편에 대한 ``따름의 행위``는 상대적으로 부각한다. 이에 남편이 죽은 후의 행실을 집중적으로 서술하기도 한다. 묘지명 서술자들은 의가 원리에 의해 남편 집안, 곧 시가에서의 행위를 집중적으로 서술한다. 이 가운데서 특히 부각되어 서술되는 것은 가세의 부흥, 시가 남성들의 존속, 가문의 경제적 위세를 드러내는 것과 관련된 일들이다. 이 세 가지 원리는 여성 묘지명 서술자들이 내용을 선택하는 기준으로 작용할 뿐 아니라 서술 방식도 남성 묘지명 서술 방식과 다르게 한다. 이는 곧 여성 묘지명 글쓰기의 원리이기도 하며 이로써 볼 때 여성 묘지명은 또 하나의 사회 문화 담론의 성격을 지닌다.

This paper investigated the description principal and the description aspect which it follows in woman inscription on a tomb. Woman inscription on a tomb had been wirrten by male author in Chosun Danysty. The male author re-compounded woman life with differant principles and methods from with male inscription on a tomb. There was the principle of hiding, the principle of following anather people and the principle of family prosperity The principal which it hides distinguishes the fact that regarding the woman and it does not describe, it hides after the thing which belongs in the male. The male author don`n say woman name. It does not refer the descendants from woman inscription on a tomb. It refers the descendants from substitution male inscription on a tomb. The male author does not describe the conduct of the woman with the spontaneous. The woman confront in the males and it acts. Specially, the male author describe woman actions when her husband had died. The male author describe the devotion of woman to the family of husband. For example a family reconstruction, arranging the cemetery again and expanding house. The three principles regarded as a standard which male author described womna inscription on tomb. From like this viewpoint the woman inscription on a tomb also keeps the character of one social culture discussion.
