이 연구는 이제까지 이루어진 고전문학교육 연구의 흐름을 정리, 분석함으로써 국어교육 내에서 고전문학교육이 새롭게 나아갈 방향을 제시하고자 하는 목적을 지닌다. 고전문학교육 연구는 지난 10여년간 이전의 고전문학 교육의 일반적 경향에서 국어교육의 흐름에 맞추어 새롭게 변화, 모색, 발전해 온 역사를 지니고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 이제까지의 고전문학교육 연구의 흐름을 분석하고, 그 과정에서 제기된 고전문학교육 연구의 쟁점을 정리해 보았다. 그리고 이를 국어과 교육과정의 변화 방향이나 고전문학교육 자체의 논의에서 제기된 방향 설정과 관련지어 앞으로 나아갈 방향을 모색해 보고자 하였다. 이제까지의 고전문학교육 연구는 (1)이해론, (2)표현론, (3)고전-문화적 문식성론, (4)수용자론, (5)제도 및 실천론 등으로 나누어 볼 수 있다. 그리고 이러한 논의 과정에서는 (1)``문화`` 개념을 둘러싼 고전문학교육의 본질 문제, (2)고전문학교육에서 ``지식``과 ``활동``의 문제, (3)해석의 ``적합성``과 ``다양성``의 범위 문제 등을 중심으로 고전문학교육의 문제가 쟁점이 되었다. 이렇게 볼 때, 전체적인 고전문학교육의 범주는 (1)고전문학교육의 구성 변인과 (2)고전문학교육이 실행되는 교육과정 변인으로 삼아 고전문학교육 연구의 하위 영역을 중심으로 하여 구분, 통합할 수 있다. 이들 범주는 별개의 연구 영역으로 존재할 수도 있지만 상호 통합적으로 이루어질 수도 있다. 이렇게 볼 때, 앞으로 필요한 고전문학교육 연구의 영역은 연구의 효용성을 위해 구체적이면서 국어교육에서의 실행과 관련되는 부분이다. 즉 내용론도 다루어야 하지만, 평가나 방법과 같은 국어교육 실천 영역도 함께 고려해야 한다. 이러한 구체성, 실천성과 함께 새로운 연구 영역으로 볼 수 있는 범주는 문학치료학, 작문론, 매체론이다. 이들 연구는 고전문학교육 연구임을 표제로 드러내고 있지는 않지만, 고전문학 작품을 중심으로 한 경우들이 많아 주목할 만하다.

This research treats what is the study on the classical literature education and how it is changed. So this study conducts what is the problem and issue of the current of the research on the classical literature education and which is the tendency and the direction? Since ten years, the study on the classical literature education has changed, so that it is necessary to view how it is changed and how we to do. It is the problem that in the area of the Korean education how the classical literature education is related with the other area. So, in this research, it is tried the analysis on the trend of the research on the classical literature education and the synthesis of the issue on the classical literature education research. And it is aimed where is the point of the direction in reference to current research. The research on the classical literature education ever conducted can be divided into five category : the study on the appreciation of the classical literature, on the expressional mechanism of the classical literature , on the classical-cultural literacy through the classical literature, on the subject who accept the classical literature, on the policy and practice of the classical literature education. And the important issue in these research is that what is the concept of the cultural view about the classical literature, what is the criterion classifying the knowledge and the activity, and how we can judge the appropriation about the diverse activity of the student. In conclusion, it is needed, in the study on the education of the classical literature, that we must research practical education of the classical literature and try to expand the area of the education of the classical literature: such as applying medea in to the classical literature education, therapeutics through the classical literature, writing education with the classical literature and otherwise.
