The purpose of the study is twofold: first, to analyze the syntactic and semantic nature of the Korean case alternation between the dative case marker ``-e`` and the accusative case marker ``-lul`` when cooccurring with particular verbals denoting result, situation, movement, second, to introduce the research results into the theoretical framework of HPSG. The research result reveals that, in case of ``result or situational verbs`` occurring together with a patient subject, their complement arguments are assigned with the dative case marker ``-e`` only if they possess the thematic role, [LOCATIVE]. By contrast, when the complements possess the role of [THEME], their case marker is realized as the accusative suffix ``-lul``. The research also reveals that, in the case of ``movement verbs``, two thematic roles, [LOCATIVE] and {THEME], are simultaneously required in order for the ``-e/lul`` case alternation to be permitted to their complements.
