There have been many approaches and methods in foreign language education. Many recent studies have introduced approaches interfaced with cognitive linguistics. The one of them is studies on the roles of conceptual metaphors in the foreign language education. A metaphor is not a language only for poems or novels any more. Since Lakoff and Johnson`s work, Metaphor We Live By (1980), metaphors are viewed as aids for better understanding of everyday conversations. And, there have been many studies recently to show how the metaphors may work in the language education. This study introduces conceptual metaphors and metonymies we often use for better understanding everyday and suggests how the metaphors and motonymies can be introduced and used in language classrooms to facilitate language learning.
