The purpose of this paper is to provide some new approach on some properties of somewhat puzzling V-ing constructions like English. V-ing nominalisations present a well-known problem for categorial specification in the lexicon. It has mainly been focused on solving the twin properties(DP/VP) of V-ing. For the new analysis of V-ing constructions, I show how the difference between Poss-ing and Ing-of constructions derives from the representation of argument structure. Based on light verb which assigns accusative case and introduces the external argument, I present the hypothesis that Ing-of constructions contain a defective light verb because they have an external argument position although accusative case is not observed on the object.
