창의성에 대한 논의 가운데 최근에 주목을 받고 있는 것은 창의성이 국어, 수학, 음악 등과 같은 교과 특수적 영역에서 발현된다는 것이다. 이것은 국어적 창의성, 수학적 창의성은 일반적 창의성과 동일하지 않으며, 따라서 국어적 창의성은 국어 교과를 통해서 신장시킬 수 있다는 것을 시사한다. 이 연구의 목적은 초등학생의 국어적 창의성 신장을 위한 초등 국어과 교육과정, 교수·학습 방법 및 교수·학습 자료를 개발하는데 있다. 이를 위해, 일반적 창의성에 대한 논의를 토대로 교과적 창의성, 즉 국어적 창의성에 대한 개념을 도출했으며, 현행 국어과 교육과정과 여러 나라의 모국어 교육과정을 참고하여 국어적 창의성 신장을 위한 초등국어과 교육과정 내용 체계를 구안했다. 또한 교사와 학생 간의 언어적 상호작용과 학생 스스로의 탐구 과정을 기반으로 하는 창의성 증진을 위한 초등 국어과 교수·학습 방법을 개발했다. 그리고 이러한 교육과정과 교수·학습 방법을 기초로 교실 현장에 적용할 수 있는 교수·학습 자료를 마련했다.

Recently many researchers are interested in the argument that human being`s creativity happens in the specified subject areas such as language arts, mathematics, and music. This may indicate that people`s general creativity is not the same with their curricular creativity and thus human being`s linguistic creativity can be enhanced through Korean language education. The purpose of this study was to develop the Korean language arts curriculum, teaching-learning strategies, and teaching materials to enhance elementary schoolers` Korean creativity. For this goal, the investigators reviewed literature of general creativity and of English language arts curriculum of many foreign countries. Then we drew an definition of the curricula creativity in Korea language arts area and constructed Korean language arts curriculum framework. Additionally, we developed the teaching-learning strategies and many teaching materials, including a textbook, to enhance elementary schoolers` Korean creativity.
