이 글은 말하기에서의 설명 능력 평가 방법을 모색하기 위한 것이다. 말하기는 종류가 매우 다양하고, 유형에 따라 중점을 두는 부분이 다르므로 유형에 따라 적합한 평가 방법이 다르다. 여기에서 주로 대상으로 하는 것은 정보 전달적 대중연설에서의 설명 능력이다. 이 글에서 제기되는 평가지표들은 일반적인 상황에서 설명 연설이 수행되고 평가되는 것을 전제로 한다. 이 글은 5장으로 구성되어 있다. 2장은 글쓰기와 말하기에서의 설명을 비교한 것이다. 글 전개 방법으로서의 설명법이 잘 규정되어 있는 것과 달리 말하기에서는 설명이 무엇인지 명확하게 제시되어 있지 못한데, 이 글에서는 설명을 정보 전달의 방법으로 처리한다. 말하기에서 설명을 전개하는 방법은 구어체 사용, 핵심 내용의 강조, 구체적인 예의 제시, 적절한 비유의 사용 등이다. 3장에서는 화자를 중심으로 한 설명 능력의 평가 지표를 내용면과 표현면으로 양분하여 다룬다. 내용 구성 평가 중 시작과 종결 부분은 전개 부분의 설명을 효과적으로 전달하기 위한 장치로 작용하므로 전개 부분과 다른 평가 지표가 적용되어야 한다. 전개 부분은 구조의 적절성, 주제와 핵심 부분에 대한 강조, 내용의 체계성, 구체적인 예, 청중의 수준에 맞는 설명과 상황 고려가 필요하다. 표현면의 평가는 어법과 어휘 및 간결성, 부차언어, 신체언어가 평가 지표에 포함되어야 한다. 4장에서는 수용자인 청자를 중심으로 한 설명 능력의 평가 기준을 살핀다. 설명의 목적이 청중들에게 중심 내용을 전달하는 것이라면 전달의 측면이 포함되어야 하기 때문이다. 청자의 반응과 전체적인 인상 평가가 지표에 포함되어야 할 것이다. 5장에서는 말하기 능력 평가 지표의 정도성 측정 방법을 수치식 등급 측정과 항목별 주관식 측정으로 나누어 간략하게 살펴본다. 후자는 평가자나 피평가자 모두 만족하지 못할 가능성이 크다. 평가 지표의 구체적인 측정 방법이나 신뢰도와 타당성을 유지하기 위한 방법에 대한 것은 좀더 세밀한 연구, 검토가 필요하다.

The purpose of this paper is to search for a solution which is to the method of evaluation on the explanative ability in speech. The types of speech is various and each type has its own method of evaluation. The subject of our investigation is the explanative ability in Informative Public Speaking. In this paper, valuation basis is on the assumption that the Speaking is processing in normal condition. This paper consists of five chapters. Second chapter deals with explanation in writing and speech. Explanation in writing is made a rule but it is not clear in speech. We deal with that which is a method to communicate messages. The methods of explanaion in speech is follows : colloquial style, emphasis of the point, specific instances etc. Third chapter treats valuation basis from a speaker`s position of view, which has two parts ; one is side of content, the other is side of expression. The beginning and the end of valuation are the device for communication that has more effect of explaining. The other valuation basis have to apply to that. The body of speech is in need of suitable structure, emphasis for theme and the central idea of speech, systematic contents, specific instances, explainations for the audience`s levels and the consideration for situation. Valuation about expression section call for a mode of expression, vocabulary, a concise style, para-language and Kinesics etc. Forth chapter treats valuation basis from stand point of listeners. It has to include the side of the communication because the purpose of explanation is to communicate the contents to the audiences. That must conclude responses of the audiences and the impressional evaluation. Fifth chapter consider the method that is to grade for evaluation on the explanative ability in speech, that includes two method ; one is to express the result numerically, the other is to descriptive the result. The latter is not satisfactory method for both appraisers and speakers. It requites further examination from the special methods to measure evaluation basis and the methods to keep up reliance and appropriateness.
