이 논문은 한국 사회의 공공성과 사이비 공동체의 관계를 조망하고자 하였다. 한국 사회는 정치·경제적 구조는 급속히 근대화되었음에도 불구하고 사회 구조 자체는 여전히 전근대적 구조를 유지해 왔다. 그렇게 된 가장 큰 이유 중의 하나가 혈연·지연·학연에 따른 폐쇄적 공동체의 존속이었다. 그리고 이와 같은 폐쇄적 공동체의 존속은 근대적 공공성의 확보를 저해하는 요인으로 작용했다. 그러나 폐쇄적 공동체는 경쟁적 사회에서 전통적 공동체의 순기능을 발휘하기도 하기 때문에 단순한 폐기는 긍정적 결과를 낳기 어렵다. 이에 따라 전통적 공동체의 순기능과 근대적 공공성의 확보라는 기능을 겸할 수 있는 새로운 대안으로 사이버 공동체를 생각해 볼 수 있다. 사이버 공동체는 가상 공간과 현실 공간의 자아 상충 등의 문제를 안고 있으나 근대적인 고립된 자아를 넘어서는 다중적 자아의 확보로 근대성의 문제점을 극복하고 우리 사회에 근대적 공공성과 전근대적 공동체의 화해를 가져다 줄 수 있는 새로운 가능성으로 기능할 수 있을 것이다.

This paper`s purpose is to have a view of relation of Korean publicity and cyber community. Inspite of Korean society`s apparent modernizaton, its social structure is still continuing premodern. One of the causes for that is continued existence of close community by blood relation, regional relation, schoo ties. And such a continued existence functioned as a factor of hindrance for securiing the modern publicity. On the other hand, close community has a positive function of traditional commnity in the competitive society. So its simple abolition cannot produce positive result. Thus we can imagine the cyber community as a new alternative to be able to funtion both the positive funtion of traditional community and secure of modern publicity. Although Cyber community has many problems, for example, ego trouble between cyber space and real space, it may have new possibility for reconciliation between modern publicity and premodern commnity.
