This paper aims to investigate the beginning process of slavic literacy. As it is well known, literacy(in other word, alphabet) is the most important base of literature. In this sense, developing the slavic alphabet is the most important event in the slavic literature. Before 863, A.D., slavic literature was very primitive and undeveloped. This was from the absence of Slavic literacy. At this time, people used the Run alphabet, Greek alphabet and phrase. In 863, the Byzantine priest Cyril and Methodius made the first slavic alphabet. Slavic people could to rewrite or to translate the Greek Bible to Old slavic(old Bulgarian). This is the beginning of slavic literacy. These bibles and books, translated by first slavic, transferred to the Kiev Russian society. By this way, the first slavic literature began to develop with it`s own language and to express their own spirit and traditions(Literature in Translation). But in the developing process, the west slavic literature tradition, step by step, developed his own tradition under the influence of Roma Catholic culture. They also use the latin alphabet. The following table shows the culture-literature co-relationship between Slavic countries.
