본 논문에서는 현상학적 관점에서 이루어진 기술의 존재론적 담론들을 구체적으로 살펴보고, 이의 문제점 특히 20세 후반에 등장한 첨단기술의 특성들과 견주어 어떤 부분들이 미흡한지를 비판적으로 검토할 것이다. 가장 심각한 문제로 기술에 관한 현상학적인 존재론 담론이 기술의 존재적 외연을 도구에 한정하는 도구 중심적 관점에서 있음으로 해서, 그리고 기술 결정론적 성향이 강함으로 해서, 오늘날 기술과 관련하여 제기되는 근본적인 수준의 다양한 문제들을 포괄하는데 한계가 있음을 지적할 것이다. 이를 극복하기 위한 하나의 방안으로 현대기술에 대해 우리가 언급할 수 있는 다양한 존재적 외연들로 무엇이 있는지 분석한 다음, 이에 근거하여 기술의 존재적 외연을 도구에서 시스템으로 확장할 수 있는 가능성을 개념적 수준에서 모색해 볼 것이다. 이는 기술을 시스템으로 본 두 입장에 대한 분석을 통해 이루어질 것이다. 현대기술의 존재적 외연이 이렇게 확장될 수 있다면 이에 기초한 기술의 존재론적 본질에 관한 논의 역시 달라질 수밖에 없고, 달라져야 할 것이다. 그런 연유로 시스템에로의 기술 외연의 확장은 이후 기술의 새로운 존재론 담론을 구성함에 있어서 하나의 중요한 동기 또는 토대가 될 것이라 기대해 본다.

In this paper, first of all, I will examine concretely main arguments of phenomenologistic ontological discourse on technology and criticize its difficulties and limits especially in comparison with actual characteristics of high-technologies in the late 20th century. And then I would point out that the serious problems with this phenomenologistic discourse are caused by narrow confinement of an ontic denotation of technology to a materialized instrument as well as by a tendency of technical determinism. Because of them the phenomenologistic attempts fail to cover main ontological issues related to high-technologies properly. As one way to solve it, I will suggest a variety of ontic denotations of technology except a instrument, and on the basis of analyses of them I will also consider the possibility of extension of ontic denotation of technology carefully from an instrument into a technical system. If successful, technology will get another ontological meaning different from the phenomenologistic one. It will be performed through the analysis of two different views of technical system. This new concept, technical system, is expected to be a base or motive for constructing a new ontological discourse on high-technologies.
