본 논문은 <한국 근 현대 100년의 역사를 동서양 윤리 패러다임의 충돌과 융합이라는 관점에서 재구성하고 이를 비판적으로 탐구하는 공동작업>의 한 부분으로서, <동서양 사상의 만남을 바라보는 기존 관점에 대한 비판적 연구>이다. 상기 공동작업의 궁극 목적은 동서양 윤리 패러다임의 변증법적 융합을 통해 21세기 한국 사회를 인도할 새로운 윤리패러다임의 정립을 시도하는 데 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 작업을 하기에 앞서서 먼저 동서양 문화(내지 문명)간의 대화, 즉 동서양 사상 상호간의 이해와 융합은 어떤 방식으로 이루어져야 하는가에 대한 방법론적 논의가 필요하다는 데 착안하였다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 특히 다음 다섯 주제에 초점을 두어 고찰하고자 한다. 첫째 동서양 사상의 만남을 바라보는 서양의 `오리엔탈리즘`적 시각에 대한 비판, 둘째, 동양의 `옥시덴탈리즘(전통지상주의)`에 대한 비판, 셋째 한국 근현대 100년 동안의 동서양 사상 융합 시도들에 대한 평가와 교훈, 넷째 최근의 논의들(`아시아적 가치론` 등)이 가지는 의의와 한계, 그리고 마지막으로 동서양 사상 융합 시도의 바람직한 관점 순으로 고찰하고자 한다.

This study investigates the ideal points of view which will lead to the meaningful considerations on the dialogue of cultures. This process is very important for the efforts to construct new ethical paradigms for the future, based on the dialectical harmonizing of eastern and western philosophies. The study is composed of the following 4 stages: critical comments on `orientalism` and `occidentalism`, critical reviews on the process of trial and errors in the past 100 years of Korea and on recent issues including `the asian values`, and finally what is to be considered in the efforts to construct the ideal point of view and methodology.
