이 글은 동학 이후의 한국 생철학의 조류와 그 특징적 구조를 함석헌의 생 철학에 이르기 까지 논하는 것이다. 한국 근대의 사상에 관한 연구와 정리가 되어 있지 않은 것은 대종교(大倧敎)의 지식인 운동사의 근저에 있는 세계관에 대한 철학적 연구의 부재에도 그 원인이 있다. 일제하의 대부분의 지식인들은 대종교와 직 간접으로 연관이 있었다. 일제의 분서와 탄압으로 많은 자료가 소실되었지만 그 세계관의 성격을 알 수 있는 적은 량이 남아 있다. 그래서 일단 적은 자료 나마 참조하여, 그 세계관의 특징을 우주와 인생의 형이상학적 생명원리에 토대하여 역사와 사회에 대한 정치적 개입을 모색하는 생철학으로 파악하게 되었다. 이 철학은 인간 자아의 내적완성을 기초로 외부세계를 실천적으로 변형해 가는 내외합일의 구조를 갖는 것이었다. 이 글의 내용은 대종교인 서일(徐一)의 사상이 갖는 구조를 설명하고, 역시 대종교인 정인보(鄭寅普)의 양명학적 사상을 간략하게 언급한 다음, 함석헌의 생 철학을 전통적 생 철학과 연관하여 그 내외합일의 구조와 진보적인 새로운 특징을 해명하고자 한다. 함석헌의 사상은 형식적 의회 민주제 하에서의 진정한 민주주의를 문제삼는 문맥에서 내외합일의 생 철학적 사유를 하였다. 이런 의미에서 사회의 변화와 우주에서의 인간의 위치가 문제되는 상황에서는 함석헌과 그 이전의 생 철학적 조류는 여전히 현재적 의의를 가질 수 있을 것이다.
This thesis has the purpose which deals with the stream and characteristic structure of life philosophy in modern Korea from Dong-hak(東學) to life philosophy of Suk-hun Ham. There are very few studies and arrangements in Korea`s modern ideas, of which it is the result of absence in philosophical studies about world view of in Daejong-gyo (religion of Daejong, 大倧敎)`s intellectuals. Most of intellectuals under Japanese imperialism have relations to Daejong-gyo (religion of Daejong, 大倧敎) directly or indirectly. Because of burning books and suppression in Japan imperialism, a lot of materials disappeared. But there are very few remains in which we are able to know about characters of the world view. So in advance I made reference to even a few materials, I could understand characters in the world view as life philosophy that tries to find political participation about history and society at the basis of metaphysical principle of vitality in universe and life. This philosophy has the structure that unites the inner and the outer, that is, transforms the outside world at the base of inner accomplishment in human self. The details of this thesis will describes the structure of Seo-il(徐一)`s thought as Daejong-gyo(religion of Daejong, 大倧敎)`s follower, In-bo Jung(鄭寅普)`s thought in the Philosophy of Wang Yangming(陽明學) as the same follower shortly as well, and in the next I`ll explain the structure that unite inside and outside and the new advanced character. In this context Suk-hun Ham`s life philosophy has relation with traditional life philosophy. Suk-hun Ham had been thinking of life philosophy that unite inside and outside in context of questioning a real democracy under formal parliamentary democracy. In this meaning there`ll be the present importance on the philosophy of Suk-hun Ham and the stream of the former life philosophy in relation to questioning change of society and human`s position in universe up to these days.
