‘여성의 말하기’는 사회적 관념과 통념에 순응하거나, 저항하기도 하고 때로는 통념을 전면으로 반박하면서 자신의 영역을 만들어 왔다고 하겠다. 본고는 ‘여성의 말하기’에 대한 고정관념과 그 파격에 이르기까지 다양한 가치평가를 담고 있는 구비설화를 대상으로 여성의 말하기에 대한 시선을 살펴 여성의 말에 대한 태도를 점검했다. 여성의 말하기 방식을 규범적 말하기 방식과 탈규범적 말하기 방식으로 나누고, 그 중에서도 규범을 비껴서 존재하는 여성의 말하기 방식을 5가지 유형으로 살펴보았다. 1) 말대꾸하기 2) 비밀 폭로하기 3) 공격으로 대응하기 4) 규범 흉내 내기 5) 침묵 깨고 말하기가 그것이다. 남성 화자는 희화화와 금기시를 통해 여성의 말하기에 대한 부정적 인식을 드러내는 한편, 자기 교정을 위한 점검의 방편으로 여성의 말하기를 향유하기도 했다. 이에 비해 여성 화자는 여성 주인공의 처지와 경험을 적극적으로 내면화하면서 규범을 조롱하고 여성의 자기 언어 영역을 창조적으로 형성해 왔다. 규범을 벗어나는 여성의 말하기 방식에서 규제의 틈새를 비집고, 희화화와 금기의 사이를 교묘히 오가며 자신을 드러내는, 질서에 포획되거나 규정되지 않는 여성의 목소리를 발견할 수 있었다.

`Speaking of the Female` has been created its own area in the course of conforming or resisting, sometimes confuting the social common ideas. I reviewed the attitude about the female speaking in the folk tale that contains the various valuations on the women`s language. There again I divided the method of female speaking into the normative type and free-normative type first, and categorized it into 1) the retorting, 2) the disclosing the secret, 3) the responding as the attack, 4) the imitating the rule, 5) say breaking the silence 5 types. Male story-tellers accepted the female speaking as the way of checking for self-correction or understood it in the negative by way of the ridicule and taboo. On the other hand, Female story-tellers who internalized the female character`s conditions and experiences cast ridicule on the norm and has been created the female own territory of speaking creatively. Female speaking in the folk tale that is free from the norm, escapes from the restriction and reveals itself in spite of the ridicule and taboo, and moreover creates the female own voice that isn`t regulated by the male-dominated common order.
