`지역방언`과 `국어교육`이 둘의 관계는 양립하기 어려우며 어떤 때는 대립적인 관계에 놓이기도 한다. 이 글은 이들 둘의 관계를 새롭게 조명함으로써 국어교육에 있어서 지역방언을 어떻게 활용할 수 있을지 그 효과적인 방안에 대해서 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해서는 먼저 개념적인 이해가 필요하기 때문에, 전문가 집단이나 비전문가 집단에서 사용하고 있는 `지역어, 방언, 사투리`의 개념에 대해서 살펴보고 지역방언의 개념을 알아보았다. 그리고 국어교육에서 지역방언을 국어 사용 기능 중 어느 영역에 활용할지, 그리고 어떻게 활용하면 좋은지를 논의하였는데, 이를 위해 언어학적 층위인 어휘, 음운, 문법적 층위를 고려하여 각각 이들의 활용 방안에 대해서 논의하였다. 그리하여 지역방언에서 사용되고 있는 방언 어휘와 방언 음운, 방언 문법 등의 구체적인 예를 살펴봄으로써 지역적 특성이 제대로 국어교육에 제대로 반영되어야만 의사소통의 원활성뿐만 아니라 말하기 교육이나 쓰기 교육에 긍정적인 효과를 기대할 수 있음을 논의하였다.

It is necessary that reginal dialect as a subject to educate should be flexible. It is because learners expand range of their reginal dialect according to grow up. The purpose of this study is to investigate efficient relation made use for reginal dialect in Korean language education. For reach the goal of this study, it should be examined thoroughly notions as follows: reginal language, dialect, reginal dialect. considering linguistic hierarchy, it is investigated issues as follows; (1) to make use of dialect vocabulary in Korean language education, (2) to make use of dialect phoneme in Korean language education, (3) to make use of dialect grammar in Korean language education. Korean language teachers and specialists of Korean language education have to keep their mind on significance of dialect. And they have to do their best to improve Korean language lesson and to attain the goal of Korean language education.
