이 글은 1980년대 이후 현재에 이르기까지 한국사회에서 이른바 진보를 지향하는 철학이 보여준 모습과 기능을 반성적으로 고찰하고, 그 바탕 위에서 한국 사회철학에 어떤 노력이 필요한가를 생각해 본다. 1980년대 이후 우리의 사회철학은 시대를 부분적으로 반영하고 추수(追隨)해 왔다. 이 과정의 두드러지는 특색은, 서구 철학을 수입하고 답습하는 가운데 철학이 다루는 주요 영역이 `경제→정치→문화`로 변화하는 추이를 보였다는 점이다. 한국의 산업화 과정과 민주화 과정, 문화의 전개 과정이 서구가 밟아온 역사를 압축적으로 되풀이한 것이라고 볼 수 있듯이, 사상적인 면에서도 비슷한 양상이 나타났다. 시대를 선도하고자 했던 사회철학은 서구에서와 마찬가지로 한국에서도 뚜렷한 목표를 제시하지 못하는 어려운 처지에 놓여 있다. 그러나 철학은 그 실제의 기능이 다 채우지 못하는 이념을 모색하는 데서 생명력을 얻는다. 전체론적 기획에 대한 반성으로 부각된 탈이념의 경향조차 그 탈이념을 내세우는 이념성을 벗어나기 어렵다. 근래에 수입되어 주목을 받은 철학 사조들에서는 상대주의적 관점과 해체적 지향이 새로움에 대한 갈구와 얽혀 있다. 안과 밖, 그리고 경계에 대한 문제의식도 근대성을 넘어서는 새로움에 대한 이념적 지향을 보여준다. 이 글에서는 특히, 아감벤, 데리다 등과 함께 뒤늦게 부각된 벤야민의 사유에 주목한다. 어울러 이 글은 이제 서구의 철학을 수입하여 이용하는 것 이상의 독자적인 철학적 노력이 착근될 수 있는 조건이 무엇인가를 조심스럽게 다시 묻고 있다.

The main purpose of this paper is to examine the aspects and functions of social progressive philosophy in Korea since 1980`s and to try to present what efforts are needed for the new creative social philosophy in Korea. The social thoughts in Korea since 1980`s have reflected and followed the experiences in Korea, importing the corresponding western philosophies. It seems worthy to note that the main field of philosophical focus has changed in the pattern of . The thoughts in Korea have repeated the western experiences in contraction in such a similarity as the processes of industrialization and democratization have shown. Now social philosophy in Korea as well as in western world finds itself in a difficult situation where it cannot present a clear and persuasive social model. However, it is from the ideal that the philosophy gets its life, though it could not function as such in reality. Even the philosophy for post-ideality has its own ideal. We can observe in the contemporary relativism or deconstructionism the ideal orientation for a new which aims at the overcoming of limits of modernity. Recently, the thoughts of Gorgio Agamben, Jacques Derrida, and especially Walter Benjamin have come in the limelight in Korea. In addition to sharing this critical mind for the outside of modernity, this paper inquires the conditions for the autogenous philosophy in Korea.
