This paper, in an effort to understand and interpret the modern history of philosophy in Korea in the 20th century from 1930s to the latter period of the Third Republic and by selecting each philosophy of Sin Namcheol, Park Jonghong and Ham Seokheon respectively, aims to critically understand each thought system of the three philosophers and to discuss each philosopher`s consistent characteristics and the current significance thereof. Sin Namcheol viewed the world as a process of dialectical, creative unfolding, positing the most fitting human image in the 30s and 40s as a free, anguishing human contending against the bondage of inevitability. The future socialism was to be realized through maximal actualization of rich, humanistic self-maturity of such free humans and advantages of liberalism. Such process of realization challenges the inevitable and takes on attributes of rigid, magnificent and tragic dialectics that is to be sacrificed. Notwithstanding some points deserving further review, his historical materialism looked upon somewhere beyond a capitalist society. And a thorough democracy (progressive democracy) founded upon spontaneity of grassroots people according to the spirit of March 1 Movement was taken as a task of the then times and this fact is significant in the sense that we may ascertain some allusions from such task. Park Jonghong reinterpreted Heidegger`s vantage point that development of negative logic before engaging into the praxis had to be initiated while simultaneously pursuing non-differentiation or identification of beings as part of nature which was construed as realization of human nature as mandate from Heaven according to Neo-Confucianism. He further attempted to accomplish creation of culture which was to be constructed in the spirit of the negation and was largely based on the Three Principles of the People (Nationalism, Democracy and People`s Welfare) developed by himself. His way of remodeling of the actual circumstances along this direction was founded upon the dialectics of creative negation of Hegel and it is also under the influence of Nishida`s dialectics of life. His philosophy is construed as diluting the criticism levelled against capitalism and statism in conformity with the Three Principles of the People. But his monumental research on the history of traditional philosophy and logic of negation and also interest in the internal areas of humankind and nature are still worthy of our philosophical discussion. Ham Seokheon connected the nature of human internal sphere with fundamental democracy as the praxis of thought which was proposed by both Park Jonghong and Heidegger, yet overlooked by Sin Namcheol, and was thus able to foresee the classless society which may lie somewhere beyond capitalism. (thought revolution) His internality is not limited only to beings in relation to nature. Rather, it was embedded in "people at the bottom" which inherently entailed the grassroots nature. Further, his prospect of society positioned the dialectics of life which was developed in connection with modern biology within the bounds of a world-view founded upon metaphysics. According to the dialects of life by Park Jonghong and Ham Seokheon, the evolutionary, creative unfolding of life in the universe suggests that the existential significance of humankind when humankind came into being rests with negation and freedom and thus shows that the entire history of evolution of nature is a process of striving and strife to realize freedom. The dialectics of life strives us toward a task of social philosophy that the significance of life lies in thorough realization of freedom which is in contention against the objective institutions. In this context, Sin Namcheol`s physical humankind and scientific praxis can be reborn as a philosophy of life with specificity after it is integrated with the dialectics of life. This paper attempts to review each of these three aforementioned philosophers and to critically inherit each of them.
