본 연구는 과학기술 분야의 시대적 변화와 이를 반영한 대학에서의 공학교육의 방향에 대해 생각해 보고 변화하는 새로운 시대의 공학도를 위한 글쓰기 교육의 합리적 모델을 정립하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해, 첫 번째로, 21세기 공학 교육의 방향을 공학인증의 평가 내용 기준을 바탕으로 제시하고 이를 통해 공학 전공자를 위한 의사소통 교육에서 다루어야 할 내용들을 7개의 항목으로 정리하였다. 다음으로, 이상의 항목의 검토를 통해 공학자를 위한 글쓰기 교육에 새롭게 보완되어야 할 부분에 대해 논의하였다. 새롭게 수정 보완될 내용으로 첫째, 기초 실용문 쓰기에 대한 내용은 과학기술자의 학문과 직업 활동상의 글쓰기 특징을 고려하여 설계 교육을 바탕으로 하는 문제 중심적(problem-based) 방법으로 재구성될 필요가 있다는 것과 둘째, 자기 설명력을 갖춘 과학기술자 양성을 위해 학습 포트폴리오의 작성과 활용에 대한 내용이 보충되어야 한다는 것, 셋째, 다학제적 상황에서의 협력과 소통을 위한 교육 내용이 보충되어야 한다는 것 등을 제시하였다. 마지막으로, 앞의 논의를 바탕으로, 공학 글쓰기의 두 가지 새로운 모델을 제안하였다. 첫 번째는, 전 학년에 걸쳐 학년별로 전공 교과목과 융합하여 이루어지는 통합 모델이며 두 번째는, 글쓰기 교과목의 내용을 공학의 학문적 성격과 공학 전공자의 기본 소양을 중심으로 재편한 다학제적 모델로 공학과 인문사회적 이슈를 이해하고 인문 사회적 문제를 공학 기술을 통해 해결하는 PBL (Problem Based Learning) 방식을 기반으로 설명과 설득의 다양한 방법을 글과 말의 통해 훈련하고 이를 구체적 소통 상황에서 활용하는 능력을 배양하도록 하는 교육 모델이다.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the current issue confronting engineers and the engineering profession and establish new instruction model of engineering communication course meeting the needs of the times. As the first step, we explore new trend of engineering education based on the ABEEK`s new engineering accreditation criteria. ABEEK reaffirmed a set of "hard" engineering skills while introducing a second, equally important, set of six "professional" skills. These latter skills include communication, teamwork, and understanding ethics and professionalism, which we label process skills, and engineering within a global and societal context, lifelong learning, and a knowledge of contemporary issues. As the second step, we suggest new instruction model of engineering communication course. The model is an integrating communication skill to engineering subjects for 4 year track. we also suggest an interdisciplinary communication course integrating with engineering subjects. The main teaching method is based on PBL and collaborative learning and the main contents are consist of 8 small topics: globalization and engineers, portfolio writing, the current issue of engineering and technology, creative thinking and communication, writing skill, new product design, explanation and persuasion. ethic of writing and profession.
