본 연구는 정신내적 어려움을 겪고 있는 경계선 청소년에게 대상관계이론을 적용하여 상담한 사례를 분석하였다. 특히 Masterson과 Kernberg의 치료기법을 사용하였다. 첫째, 청소년의 심리적 성장과정에 의한 부적응적 현상은 가족의 역기능적 상호작용에 의해서 야기된다는 것이다. 특히, 대상의 유기불안에 의한 매달림의 역동에 의해서 야기된다는 것을 발견할 수 있었다. 둘째, 내담자에게 치료초기에는 지지적인 기법을 사용하여 낮은 자긍심을 회복시켜 어머니에 대한 부정적인 느낌을 표출하도록 하였으며 중간단계에서는 탐험적 치료기법과 표현적 치료기법을 사용한 것이 효과적이었다. 셋째, 이러한 치료기법으로 내담자는 분열된 자기-대상표상을 통합할 수 있었고 자신의 성장과 독립을 시도하고자 하였다.

This case study used object relations theory(OR) to examine with the borderline adolescent who was suffered from psychic problems. In particular, author used expressive, confrontive and reconstructive psychotherapy. The study supports the idea that mother-infant relationship significant influence a second separation-individuation of the adolescent. The therapist used OR as looking glass with which to look into and interpret the client`s self-object representation. The client was able to experience the therapist as a good object. Finally, The client was able to intergrate spilt object relation, and try on separation.
