본 연구는 2007년 개정 국어과 교육과정이 담고 있는 커다란 메시지의 하나가 국어과 통합교육임을 주목하여, 국어 교육 현장에서 국어 교육의 실천 주체인 국어과 교사들이 통합교육에 대해 어떻게 이해하고 있는지를 살펴보는 데 초점을 두었다. 연구방법은 학교급을 망라하여 초등학교, 중학교, 고등학교 국어교사에게 설문지를 통한 의견 조회 방식을 취하였다. 연구 결과 전반적으로 국어 교사들의 통합교육에 대한 개념적 이해가 이론적이지는 않지만 비교적 타당하게 형성되어 있는 것으로 나타났고, 도입의 필요성은 충분히 인식하고 있으나 필요한 이유로는 대체적으로 언어 사용의 총체성을 꼽았는데 이는 교육과정의 인식과 부합한다. 통합교육의 대상으로는 초등학교의 경우는 표현 활동인 쓰기와 말하기를 고려하였고, 중고등학교에서는 쓰기와 읽기 영역을 우선적으로 고려하는 경향이 있었다. 통합의 연결고리에 대해서는 학습 목표 위주의 긴밀한 통합을 의식하지 못하는 양상이 나타났다. 이 밖에 통합교육을 실천한 경험의 측면에서 절반 이상이 월 1회 정도로 실시해 본 적이 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 교육적 효과와 향후 실시 여부에 대해서는 긍정적 의사가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 현재까지 국어과 통합교육이 활발하지 못한 이유로 교사들의 전문성 부족을 가장 많이 지적하였다. 이러한 결과는 현재 교육과정 차원의 통합교육에 대한 논의가 교수학습 자료, 교수학습 프로그램, 교사 연수 등으로 구체화되어야 함을 시사한다.

Recently, integrated approach has been important in language use education. Specially, the 2007 Revised Korean Curriculum pays attention to the integrated language use. In this study, Korean teachers` understanding of the integrated language use is examined by applying questionnaire that has 10 items and the respond by 254 Korean teachers are analyzed. The result of research is follows: First, Most of Korean teachers has validly understanding of the concept of integrated education. Second, they suggest introduce to the integrated approach in the Korean teaching and learning actively. Third, they think that it is to be considered common elements between objects before using integrating approach. Fourth, the elementary Korean teachers proposed the integration between writing and speaking, but the secondary Korean teachers regard writing and reading as the most adequate integration. Fifth, the imperative problem to be resolved is a deficiency of expert knowledge of integrated instruction.
