글쓰기에는 논리적인 사고 외에도 국어학적인 지식과 능력이 필요하다. 국어학적인 능력은 표기와 표현으로 나눌 수 있다. 표기는 한글 맞춤법과 같이 글의 가독성을 높이기 위한 형식적인 장치이고 표현은 문장과 텍스트 차원에서 자신의 생각을 정확하게 담아내는 의미적인 것이라고 할 수 있다. 표현과 관련해서는 문장 성분 간의 호응, 조사나 어미의 사용, 어순, 능동, 피동, 서법, 시제, 높임법 등 문장 내적인 요소와 문장 간의 의미 연결이나 외국어 투의 사용 등과 같은 문장 외적인 요소가 존재한다.

The linguistic knowledge in writing process is one of the most important elements. It is divided into two categories. One is `notational convention (orthography)`, the other is `expression`. The notational convention is related to readability. And the expression is related to commuinicate ideas in sentence level. Expression include two types of factors; one is responsives in sentence, the use of particle and endings, word order, voice, mood, tense, honorific form and the other sentenitial conjunction, representation of translation.
