오늘날 컴퓨터 사용이 일상화되면서 CMC가 대인관계 형성에 영향을 미치고 있다. 가장 친밀한 대인관계 형태인 연인관계에서도 마찬가지다. 면대면 만남 없이 온라인 가상세계에서 연애 감정을 교류하는 것이 얼마든지 가능한 세상이다. 면대면 대인관계에서 친밀감을 형성하는 요소들은 CMC 상황에 그대로 적용되지 않는다. CMC 특성이 기존의 커뮤니케이션 체계를 뛰어넘고 있기 때문이다. CMC의 대표적 형태인 이메일은 텍스트로만 전달된다는 한계에도 불구하고 그것이 지닌 여러 장점들로 인해 연인관계에 도움을 주는 미디어가 되고 있다. 독일 소설『새벽 세시, 바람이 부나요?』는 CMC와 연인관계를 정면으로 다루고 있다. 현실 세계에서 서로 만난 적이 없는 두 남녀 사이에 교환된 이메일로만 이뤄진 이 소설은 CMC만으로 연인관계가 형성되고 유지되는 과정을 세밀하게 묘사하고 있다. 나는 이 소설에 대한 분석을 통해 이 시대 새로운 연애 소통방식으로서 CMC의 역할을 살피고자 했다. 긍정적인 측면에서 볼 때 CMC는 면대면 커뮤니케이션 못지않게 친밀한 대인관계를 형성할 수 있는 잠재력을 지니고 있다. 그러나 부정적인 측면에서 볼 때 CMC는 그 관계를 지속하는 데 어려움을 안겨준다. CMC가 여전히 면대면 커뮤니케이션의 여분 채널로서 기능할 수밖에 없는 이유가 여기에 있다.
While people live in the computerized society, CMC becomes a matter in human relationship. Furthermore, it affects the romantic relationship which is the closest form of human relationship because it`s the world that men and women are able to mutually understand the tender passion in a virtual space without face-to-face communication. Definitely, some factors that make people more intimate such as meeting, touching, and eye-contacting are not applicable to the CMC-based human relationship because CMC is a completely different way of communication from that of preexisted. For example, e-mail, one of the formats in CMC, helps people make the romantic relationship with its some advantages even though it is only written by texts. The German novel, "Gut gegen Nordwind," written by Daniel Glattauer, is straightly dealing with how CMC helps the romantic relationship. This story, made of e-mails exchanged between a man and a woman who have never met each other, fully describes how CMC makes the romantic relationship and keeps it. I try to explain how CMC affects the romantic relationship through the novel analysis, and eventually, I can approach a conclusion. In a positive perspective, CMC has a plenty of possibility that people make a closer human relationship as much as face-to-face communication has. However, in a negative perspective, CMC is not effective to maintain the relationship, and it`s the reason why CMC still be subordinate to face-to-face communication.
