이 논문은 주자학이 고착되어 가던 17세기의 상황 속에서 주자학과 양명학으로 학문적 차이를 보였던 명재 윤증과 하곡 정제두의 교유 관계를 두 사람 사이에 오간 편지를 중심으로 살핀 것이다. 윤증은 정제두와 스승 제자관계이며 인척이기도 하였기 때문에, 양명학에 침잠한 정제두를 아끼는 입장에서 주자학적 관점을 바탕으로 정제두의 학문을 비판하였다. 두 사람 사이에 오간 편지는 윤증이 보낸 9통과 정제두가 보낸 10통, 그리고 윤증이 타계한 이후 아들 윤행교에게 정제두가 보낸 2통이 남아 있다. 그 기간은 윤증이 64세이자 정제두가 44세 때부터 시작하여 20년 동안 이어졌다. 그 과정에서 윤증은 단호한 비판을 해 왔고 정제두는 양명학에 대한 더욱 확고한 의지를 다져갔다. 하지만 두 사람은 학문적으로 더 큰 격차를 보이면서도 여전히 서로 아끼고 격려해 주었다. 윤증은 마지막까지도 정제두의 잘못된 학문이 스승인 자신의 책임이라는 입장을 버리지 않았고, 정제두 또한 죽은 뒤까지도 스승에 대한 예로서 대했다. 그 과정이 정제두에게는 상대방을 더 열심히 설득해 보려는 추동력이 되었고, 동시에 자신의 학문을 체계화하는 기틀이 되었다.

This paper is a research for the association between Yun jeng and Jung je du in 17th century of chosun dynasty. Neo-Confucianism has set in that time. Yun jeng studied Neo-Confucianism and Jung je du studied The doctrines of Wang Yangming. They had relationship between teacher and student, also they were related by marriage. They exchanged letter and argued about Jung je du`s study with each other. But Yun jeng is the person that cares for and love Jung je du. Yun jeng sent a letter nine times and Jung je du sent a letter ten times, as well he sent a letter to Yun jeng`s son two times. That period started when Yun jeng was sixty-four years old and Jung je du was fourty-four years old and the debate maintained twenty years. In the process of that argument Yun jeng criticized firmly Jung je du`s theory and Jung je du was more fixed his will for The doctrines of Wang Yangming. In spite of the gap of their study they still saved and encouraged each other. Untill the end of his life Yun jeng didn`t give up his duty as teacher and Jung je du kept manners for Yun jeng as student still later Yun jeng` death. That process gave the chance to Jung je du which he made his own theory and established the Korean doctrines of Wang Yangming.
