This study deals with Daniel Venegas`s 1928 novel, Las aventuras de Don Chipote o cuando los pericos mamen, defined by Nicolas Kanellos as `the first Chicano novel`. This novel is an extremely innovative literary narrative which attempts to embody new characters such as Chicano braceros within the tradition of picaresque literature and the road story. Iwant to argue that the author reveals social and cultural concerns regarding the developing transnational communities of Chicano in Southwestern cities such as El Paso and Los Angeles. This novel, based on Mexican urban cronicas, represents the early immigrant Chicano society and culture of the 20s by giving a faithful description of city landscape through satire and humor, and portraying realistic pictures of show business in East Los Angeles. Iultimately attempt to show that the novel can be interpreted as an immigration novel with deep engagement with issues of resistance to a fixed concept of Chicano identity and response to the contending necessities of early Chicano society as a `Mexico de Afuera` versus a new displaced community.
