Visual language is a language that represents form symbolically and embraces various cultures, rising above races and languages. In today`s society, the concept of information exchange is changing rapidly due to globalization and the emergence of new information. Pictograms have a great amount of value as a visual language. Olympic pictogram is one of these visual languages and describes the host country`s cultural backgrounds. In this study, a survey was conducted with 175 (male; 110 and female; 65) voluntary respondents about their preferences for and recognition of Olympic pictograms used from the 24th to the 29th Olympic games. The respondents showed the highest levels of visual recognition from the pictograms used in the 29th Olympic Games. Twenty-nine percent of the participants didn`t recognize the pictogram that represented the sport of Modern Pentathlon throughout the period surveyed. Therefore, designers should consider the levels of recognition related to these pictograms and try to re-shape them according to the culture of the intended recipients.
